Baltimore Ravens

The Digital Media Editorial Assistant will assist with the day-to-day operations of publishing, editing, and writing editorial content for BaltimoreRavens.com and the Ravens Mobile app. This is not a broadcasting, social media, or I.T. position.

PURPOSE: Provide a hard-working, highly-motivated and collaborative candidate with an internship opportunity to experience the work environment of an NFL Digital Media department.

TIME FRAME: May, 2023 – May/June, 2024

IDEAL CANDIDATE: Will be hard working and highly flexible to adapt with constant changes that come with the NFL news cycle, have superior attention to detail, strong writing and editing skills, an interest in photojournalism, Photoshop skills with an artistic eye, previous experience using a CMS, and a working knowledge of what is newsworthy. They will routinely contribute content ideas.

GENERAL DUTIES:

  • Post news articles, transcripts, press releases, media advisories in the team’s CMS; add relevant keyword tags for SEO
  • Create images and thumbnails for articles, videos, podcasts and photo galleries posted to digital platforms
  • Write headlines for videos, photo galleries, and some stories.
  • Write stories not handled by Editorial Director and Staff Writer
  • Create photo gallery content for digital platforms, including captions, crediting and alternate text
  • Provide backend quality control of website and app – ensure all content is properly displayed and free of errors
  • Add to and organize photos in photo management library and add appropriate tags
  • Weeknight on-call content posting duties; rotational weekend on-call content poster
  • Write and send app push notifications
  • Other duties as assigned

Weekend On-Call:

  • Post news articles, videos, photo galleries, audio content, transcripts, press releases, media advisories; add relevant keyword tags and optimize pages for SEO
  • Create images and thumbnails for articles, videos, podcasts and photo galleries posted to digital platforms

Gameday (Home & Away):

  • Create story images, post gameday articles, photo galleries and post-game transcripts
  • Post all gameday videos, including game highlights, press conferences and post-game videos
  • Other duties as assigned

EXPECTATIONS:

  • Work under supervision of the Editorial Director primarily, but take direction from others in department when appropriate
  • Work 40-hour-plus week, in addition to all game days (home and away) including evenings, weekends and holidays when necessary
  • Perform duties as outlined by the Ravens’ organizational mission, values and goals provided to you upon your acceptance to the program
  • Project a professional image in all interactions with fellow Ravens’ associates, coaches and players, corporate partners and fans
  • Effectively communicate with co-workers in the department and throughout the organization
  • Provide your own transportation to the Under Armour Performance Center, M&T Bank Stadium or any other places that may be required
  • Responsible for providing your own housing in the Baltimore area
  • Arrive on time and perform duties in a professional manner
  • Go the extra mile to assist other members of the department

REQUIREMENTS:

Applicants are reviewed based on the following:

  • Have graduated from a 4-year degree institution by the start date of internship, or are currently enrolled in a graduate program
  • Degree and/or prior experience in Journalism, Digital Media, Public Relations, Communications or related field
  • Proficiency in basic content management platforms, Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Writing experience and skills
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Design experience (use of Photoshop, etc.) preferred
  • Other Internet-related skills (SEO, HTML, etc.) a plus
  • Superior attention to detail and proofreading skills
  • Availability to work long, irregular hours and adaptability to a fast-paced environment involving simultaneous projects
  • Ability to meet deadlines, think creatively, and work well on a team
  • Self-starter
  • Possesses initiative, organization, creativity, effective communication
